Celebrating the life of
Robert Anthony Jiran, Jr.
February 09, 1917 - February 08, 2013
Savannah- Robert Anthony Jiran, Jr., the son of Dorothy Mary Holm and Robert A. Jiran, Sr., was born in Savannah, Georgia on February 9th, 1917. Robbie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Farrell Jiran.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Mary Therese Jiran Cox and son-in-law, William O. Cox; grandchildren, Anne Marie Cox Carver, Amy Elizabeth Cox Atkins Andrew, Joseph Christopher Cox Candice; and 6 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Mary, Will, Avery, Kylie and Aerin, as well as many other caring extended family members and friends.
Robbie was a graduate of Benedictine Military School. He was a veteran of WWII and retired as Lt. Col. with the US Army. Later, he was employed with the US Postal Service and retired after 40 years of service. Robbie enjoyed donating his time and efforts to many charities and organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Alee Temple Shriners, Elks Club, American Legion Post 184, and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee.
Our beloved Robbie left a wonderful legacy behind him. Through his example of kindness, dedication, happiness, good character, and faith, he molded a family that became stronger than he could have imagined. His family was his greatest joy. He showed this through his actions, and spent every weekend with his daughter and her children and grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of Candler Hospital and Riverview Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided to him.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial at Bonaventure Cemetery will be private.
The family requests remembrances be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Benedictine Military School, or a charity of choice.
